The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, Ekpo Nta, has challenged state governments to rise against the fight on corruption.
Speaking during an NTA personality programme monitored in Abuja, the ICPC boss was of the view that if the state governments and the local government chairmen had risen up to their task to fight the scourge at the local level, the major bulk of the work would not rest at the Federal Government level.
Nta said one of the minor problems militating against the fight on corruption was actually the ability of most Nigerians to define what corruption really was with having to sensationalise with their own cultural ideologies.
According to him: “The institutionalisation of corruption itself is an issue that has been over-flogged due to the concentration of most of these complaints in the federal level of administration.”
Nta said the commission’s “Citizens Against Corruption Initiative” was one that was expected to limit the need for complainants to get to the commission before complaints were being entertained and investigated.
He said: “We have noticed that corrupt individuals in this country do not like doing it in the open.
“Citizens have to be proactive in the fight against corruption.
“We shall be making public list of some indicted public officers soon.”
