The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has constituted a white paper review and implementation committee to co-ordinate the recommendations of audit reports of some Nigeria Police Force companies.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Force Spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police Don Awunah in Abuja on Friday.
Awunah said this followed the receipt of a special audit report on Nigeria Police Investments companies and subsidiaries in Abuja.
Nebot Williams & Co. and Gbenga Abimbola & Co., both audit firms, were commissioned to audit the Nigeria Police H.M.O, NPF Microfinance Bank and NPF Pensions Limited.
Consequent upon that, the I-G constituted a white paper review and implementation committee that would co-ordinate the administration of these recommendations in close liaison with auditing firms.
Idris said the police management teams were looking forward to constructive recommendations that if implemented, would help to reposition the companies.
He commended the firms for carrying out their mandate within global best practices and ethics of the profession.
Awunah said both firms while submitting their reports said the task, though arduous, had been completed with attention paid to details availed them by management of the companies audited.
He said: “The auditors further informed the I-G that they had carried out a critical financial appraisal of these companies and have come up with invaluable recommendations.
“According to them, if implemented, the report will help in repositioning them to conform to international best practices.”
Meanwhile, the I-G has commended the conduct and professionalism displayed by Police officers and officers of sister security agencies in the just concluded Edo State governorship election.
Idris said the police management team, after thorough appraisal, expressed satisfaction and extolled the conduct and performance of officers and men.
Awunah said: “The Edo governorship election has proved from the policing perspective that the Nigeria Police Force has the capacity, knowledge, ability and personnel to process and safeguard our nascent democracy.”
He said the I-G commended law abiding citizens of Edo State for their cooperation with security agencies in ensuring that the governorship election was peaceful.
He said: “The Nigeria Police will continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities within the framework of the rule of law and humane dispositions.
“The I-G wishes to assure members of the public, electorate and other critical stakeholders in election management that the Nigeria Police Force will sustain this tempo in future elections in the country.”
