Hoodlums on Sunday attacked and set ablaze two campaign vehicles belonging to President Goodluck Jonathan at the Old Garage area of Suleja town of the state.
The vehicles burnt by the hoodlums are a Hiace bus and Hilux van, which are branded with the campaign posters of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The cause of the attack and the identity of the attackers were however not known but The Eagle Online learnt that the hoodlums were sympathetic towards the All Progressives Congress.
They were said to have felt offended with the campaign songs emanating from the vehicles decorated with posters of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state, Ahmed Nasko.
The attack came few minutes after the party’s governorship campaign rally held in the town, with party faithful in jubilation mood.
It was gathered that the timely intervention of military men in the area prevented the escalation of the situation.
The area where the incident took place has been cordoned.
The PDP had taken its governorship campaign train to Suleja after a similar rally in Sabon Wuse at about 2pm only to meet hostile youths on the road.
The state Commissioner of Sports, Abdullahi Garba, was said to have pleaded with the restive youths in Suleja not to disrupt the rally only for them to attack the vehicle few moments after the PDP contingent left the town.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State, DSP Ibrahom Gambari, proved abortive.
However an eyewitness said the vehicles were burnt to ashes though no life was lost.
The drivers took to their heels as the attackers descended on the vehicles.
A similar incident took place in Jos, the Plateau state capital, about two weeks ago.
One of the campaign vehicles of the President was also burnt.
