A prominent businessman and politician in Aliero, headquarters of Aliero Local Government Area in Kebbi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Lemi, was on Friday shot dead by unknown gunmen.
The security guard at the residence of the deceased, Habibu Shehu, told newsmen in Aliero on Saturday that six masked men pinned him (security man) to the ground and gained access into the house at about 8:30pm.
Shehu said the hoodlums who came in batches, rode on motorcycles.
He stated that after overpowering him, they killed their victim and fled.
A close associate of the deceased, Alhaji Buhari Mohammed, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, described the incident as a setback to business activities in Aliero.
Spokesman of the state police command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, but said no arrest had been made yet.
Abubakar said the command had commenced thorough investigations and had intensified efforts at trailing the killers.
Meanwhile, sympathizers have continued to throng the home of the deceased to condole his family.
Lemi, 68, who is survived by three wives and 22 children, had since been buried according to Islamic injunctions.
