The people of Abakaliki political bloc of Ebonyi State, made up of the central and northern zones of the state, have urged the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, to vie for the governorship seat in 2015.
A statement on Tuesday by the group, said it arrived at the conclusion after a “comprehensive analysis of the political situation and careful consideration of factors of succession, transition and power rotation” in the state.
The statement said the group met at a crucial meeting attended by all political actors and critical stakeholders from the area.
Other resolutions, apart from that calling on Chukwu to run, included “that the position of governor in 2015 should be conceded to Ebonyi South Senatorial District of the State in line with the principles of equity, fairness, good conscience and natural justice; and “that all sons and daughters of Ekumenyi who are interested in the position of governor of Ebonyi state in the next dispensation should shelve such ambition in the collective interest of the state.”
The group said it has unanimously adopted Chukwu and therefore request him to make himself available for the governorship of Ebonyi State in the 2015 general election as a “consensus candidate”.
The statement by the group added: “That all Abakaliki people shall support this power shift arrangement in the interest of peace and mutual co-existence of the various sections of the state.
“That these resolutions were taken in good faith, for and on behalf of the people of old Abakaliki zone.”
