The Assembly for the Defence of Ondo Peoples Agenda has berated one of the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirants in Ondo State, Segun Abraham, for saying that without a National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Muhammodu Buhari would not have emerged the president of Nigeria.
The group in a statement on Monday said Abraham has taken the grandstanding for his godfather too far.
It said he has proven himself to be Tinubu’s puppet who has no voice of his own and can not survive politically outside his patronage.
According to the statement signed by Henry Oladunjoye, the success of Buhari in last year’s presidential election cannot be ascribed to a singular individual or a particular region of the country, since contributions were made by various individuals from different parts of Nigeria.
The statement reads: “On what ground is Segun Abraham saying without Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Buhari would not have emerged as the president of Nigeria. President Buhari was massively voted by Nigerians from different parts of the country. In terms of percentage, what Buhari got in Ondo State and other APC states far outweighs what he got in Lagos.
“In Ondo, Buhari got over 50 percent of the total votes cast just like Lagos which gave 52 percent of the total votes cast for APC. However, in kano alone, the president has about 1.9million votes, representing about 70 percent of the total votes cast. The same for Kaduna State. How come, anyone will then say without a particular man, the president would not have emerged.”
The group knocked Abraham, saying he made such ignorant statement because he had been absent from the political scene for long, adding that he never worked for Buhari during the last presidential election and as such would find it difficult to appreciate the contributions of different individuals to the success of the party.
The group urged Abraham to play pure politics rather than resort to the politics of godfatherism and godson, which Ondo State people detest so much.
Abraham had in a radio interview in Akure, the Ondo State capital, claimed Buhari would not have become the president of Nigeria without Tinubu’s support.
