The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated FC Ifeanyi Uba on their recent victory in the 2016 Federation Cup.
The Governor also congratulated the management and players of Enugu Rangers FC for breaking a 30 years jinx to win the Nigerian Professional Football League.
Ikpeazu believes the well deserved victory of FC Ifeanyi Uba makes a compelling case for private sector support and partnership with government in sports development in Nigeria.
He therefore called on wealthy citizens and companies to invest in the growth and development of sports.
The Governor commended the proprietor and members of FC Ifeanyi Ubh for the feat and for demonstrating that the private ownership and management of football teams in Nigeria is the way to go in order to win laurels, create jobs and sustainably manage clubs as practiced in Europe.
Ikpeazu said as the state that hosts the most successful football club in Nigeria, Enyimba FC of Aba, Abians appreciate efforts that went into the successes of FC Ifeanyi Uba and Enugu Rangers FC and will learn from their experiences to remodel the operations of “our great football teams and reposition them to continue to win laurels and make football loving Abians and Nigerians proud”.
