Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has denied receiving the impeachment notice allegedly served on him by the state House of Assembly.
Al-Makura, who denied the allegations against him by the Assembly as mere hoaxes, said contrary to the position widely publicised by the House, he was yet to be served with the impeachment notice.
He told The Eagle Online he was not a corrupt leader.
The governor spoke on Saturday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Abdulhameed Kwarra.
He said based on the fact that he was yet to receive the impeachment notice, he could not respond to rumours.
He said Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, clearly defined his rights in this instance.
Al-Makura said: “As I speak to you, it not true at all to assume or claim that I had received the impeachment notice from the House of Assembly.”
According to him, there is also no record anywhere the state House of Assembly that it secured any order from a court of competent jurisdiction to serve the notice of impeachment on him.
Al-Makura told The Eagle Online on Saturday: “Inasmuch as I would not like to join issues with the House of Assembly on the pages of newspapers, I would comply with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999, as amended,”
Responding to a question put to him on whether he would put forward any defence, Al-Makura said that he is not under any obligation to respond to mere allegations published on the pages of newspapers, insisting that he is not a corrupt leader.
However, the Clerk of the House, Ego Maikeffi, declined to comment when The Eagle Online called him on the telephone.
Maikeffi insisted it was a weekend and as such would not say anything until the next working day, which is Monday.
