The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has nominated Simon Achuba as his deputy, http://www.greenbreporters.com is reporting.
Bello has since forwarded the nominee’s name to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.
The nomination of Achuba, who is said to be from Ibaji Local Government Area of the state, followed the refusal of the nominated Deputy Governorship candidate of Bello’s party, the All Progressives Congress, James Faleke, to take up the position.
Faleke is in court laying claim to the governor’s seat.
He said as the deputy governorship candidate of the initial governorship candidate of the APC, late Prince Abubakar Audu, he should automatically step into the shoes as the candidate.
In a letter to the state House of Assembly, Bello wrote: “In line with the provision of Section 186 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended, I have the pleasure to forward herewith, the name of Hon. Simon Achuba for approval of appointment as the deputy governor of Kogi State.
“Hon. Achuba (JP) hails from Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State and was a two-time honourable member of the state House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007 where he was Deputy-Speaker during his second tenure.
“In view of the above, it will be highly appreciated if the request is treated and approved with utmost speed to pave way for his assumption of office.”
Bello was inaugurated as governor on January 27, 2016 without deputy.
It was the first this would happen since Nigeria returned to democracy.
