Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu has told his deputy, Hon. Ahmed Ibeto that there is no automatic ticket for him in 2015.
Hon. Ibeto and the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Muazu Bawa, are jostling to succeed Governor Aliyu.
The governor spoke on Wednesday while inaugurating a Board of Trustees (BoT) on the N3.3 billion Christian and Muslims centres.
According to him “I will love to have somebody within the current cabinet of Niger state that will take over from us.
“There is no guarantee but we believe that it might be sympathetic enough to appreciate certain things and part of the wisdom is that some of us (cabinet members) are also members of the BoT.
“Even when we are out of government, we should be able to see at least the religious centres that we are able to finish then no matter how long God has designed for it to be finished.”
It would be recalled that Governor Aliyu had on Tuesday said he will not endorse any candidate between his Deputy Hon. Ahmed Ibeto and the commission of Works Alhaji Muazu Bawa to succeed him as Governor.
While admonishing the two major religions in the country to exhibit positive character that will depict who they truly are, Aliyu said nobody should think his religion is superior to the other.
According to him “many people often think that the outward which the people see is in the actual religion, no! In my own religion, what is in your heart is the actual religion not all the things that you show outside.
“If you study very well, you will understand your religion, you have internalised many issues so that even by your actions you will not have to tell us who you are.”
The governor however frowned at the rate at which churches and mosques spring up devoting time to only Fridays and Sundays.
“What we are seeing now is that mosques and churches have simply been turned into Sundays and Fridays ceremonies only. They are suppose to be houses of knowledge.
“We need to live together to exist peacefully. If you think that your religion is better that the other one, when we go yonder where our grandparents and parents have gone and not returned, that is the time you will see but not here. We need to come together, create centres and it must be deliberate by the society.
“We can’t leave things the way we have been living since without guidance, understanding, follow-up.
Amongst those in the BoT are former Military Head of State General Absulsalami Abubakar as Chairman, Sheikh Ahmed Lemu as Deputy Chairman for the Islamic centre and Barrister Abraham Yisa as Chairman, Dr Jacob Kolo Deputy Chairman for the Christian centre. The governor and his deputy are in both BoTs.
The centres according to the governor will cost N3, 332,068,775:65k.
Speaking also, Sheikh Lemu called for successive and continuation of government projects in all tiers of government.
He said “all ongoing government projects must be completed by any successive government because it is time for us to forestall the abandonment of projects. Sustainability and continuity are major task.
Barrister Yisa while commending the governor said that apart from the unity the project will promote it, it will foster peace and strengthen love.
He added that “none of the Holy books preached violence and crisis, God will not disappoint whoever builds a house of worship for Him”.
