Shout of ‘Barawo’, thief, ‘ole’ filled the air when the outgoing Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, mounted the podium to greet the mammoth crowd who were present at the Bako Kotangora Stadium, Minna on Friday at about 10:15am for the transition of power to the Governor-elect, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello.
Disappointed by the level of debt he incurred for the incoming government to inherit and alleged non performance by his government coupled with unfulfilled promises, Nigerlites screamed: “Change has come”, “Your time is past, go.”
Despite the huge number of security men present, the aggrieved crowd kept booing Aliyu shouting ‘barawo’ (thief) and hailing the governor-elect with this nickname, Sai Lolo.
However, because the crowd remained uncontrollable, the Police had to use teargas to dispatch Nigerlites from the podium.
