Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on Sunday remained at the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League after defeating FC Taraba 2-1 in the Week 19 match played in Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Tunde Adeniji cancelled Stephen Adams of FC Taraba’s early scare in the 12th minute at the Akure Township Stadium.
Adeniji scored in the 44th and 52nd minutes of the match and continued to trouble the defence line of the visitors.
However, the league’s highest goal scorer at the end of the first stanza with 10 goals was taken out on a stretcher in the dying minutes of the match due to injury..
With the victory, FC Taraba remained at the base with relegation staring it in the face.
Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars received the League Bloggers Award for remaining at the summit of the league on Sunday.
Akin Akinbobola, the Chairman of Ondo State Football Agency, received the award on behalf of the team during the halftime of the match.
