Heavy rainfalls have pulled down no fewer than 17 houses in Alisse and Osokora communities in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
John Inaku, the Director-General of Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of f Nigeria in Calabar.
Inaku said the affected houses were built close to a river bank, adding that the heavy rainfalls caused the river to over flow its banks to the houses.
He also said that no fewer than 43 houses were destroyed by the flood.
He said: “Following the heavy rains, no fewer than 17 houses were pulled down and over 43 others destroyed.
“The affected victims also lost their crops such as cocoa, yams, rice and others, worth millions of naira.
“The victims are currently displaced and I have written to the state government about it.
“I am very confident that government will respond to their plight.”
