The partnership between the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna and the six Nigerian Universities for injecting new skills to the interested water sector officials in the country is yielding fruitful result.
The Executive Director of National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna, Dr. Emmanuel Adanu made this known on Wednesday 29th July, 2015 when he paid advocacy visit to the Vice – Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in Ogun State to discuss issues regards capacity building in the water sector.
Dr. Adanu, represented by Director Research and Technical Services of the Institution, Dr. Dogara Bashir, said that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently between the Universities and the Ministry to advance the knowledge of the water sector officials on the new technologies that would improve the development of the sector.
He said that the MOU which was signed “National Water Resources Capacity Building Network” (NWRCBNet ) has bridged human capacity and skill gaps in the sector.
He further explained that, apart from capacity development, the Networks have served as platforms for sharing information and exchange of ideas among the partnering Universities toward improving the management of the sector.
He added that the Network has impacted positively on capacity building of the sector as it has ensured appropriate and sustainable manpower development for water resources development and management throughout the country.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Professor Olusola Oyewole said that the University is a regional coordinating centre charged with the responsibility of coordinating capacity development in the water sector through education, training, research and information dissemination in six states of south west Nigeria.
Professor Olusola thanked the Management of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the National Water Resources Institute for choosing Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta as part of the Network.
He promised full support for the sustainability of the programme as the University is blessed with experts in water related disciplines.
