The just-inaugurated Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday disclosed that he was inheriting a debt of over N57 billion from his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Fayose, who spoke at his inauguration in Ado-Ekiti, equally hinted of a possible dissolution of the 19 Local Council Development Areas created by Fayemi in the twilight of his administration.
At the ceremony, where six of the state’s lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, Fayose promised the people of the state that he would run a pro-people government.
He said the debt left behind by the outgone administration not withstanding, he would put measures in place to ensure the people of the state felt the impact of government.
He admonished civil servants to put in their best in the running of the state, adding that all appointments of Permanent Secretaries carried out by the Fayemi administration after June 21, 2014 remain voided.
On the newly-created LCDAs, Fayose said he was awaiting the outcome of the court case in that regard before taking a position on what to do with them.
His body language and pronouncement however hinted of their dissolution.
Six lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC, which controlled the outgone government, defected to the PDP at the inauguration.
This brings to seven the number of lawmakers in the state House of Assembly who belong to the PDP.
The other 21 are still with the APC.
More details soon.
