The Special Assistant on Youth Development to the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area of Lagos State, Adedoyin Ajose, has been declaring missing.
Family members raised the alarm after efforts to trace Adedoyin, two months after he was last seen, proved abortive.
This development was contained in the affidavit deposed to at the Lagos High Court by his wife, Olukemi Ajose.
“That my husband, Mr. Ajose Adedoyin, got missing on the 11th day of August 2014 shortly after he was granted bail by the Court II, Lagos over false charges and all efforts to trace him have since proved abortive,” Olukemi declared in the affidavit before Adio-T Olabisi, the Commissioner for Oaths at the Lagos High Court, Igbosere.
The worried wife, however, explained that Adedoyin was seen leaving Apapa Magistrate Court Two on August 11, 2014 after he was granted bail over false allegation against him for attempted murder.
She stated that before the disappearance, her husband had complained about his clash with a senior police officer (name withheld) over the policeman’s illegal activities, and his underneath support for a vigilance group called Community Policing Youth Vanguard.
According to her, Adedoyin with the local government boss, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, have been having running battle with members of the vigilance group who were said to be enjoying the backing of the top cop.
Olukemi explained that it was surprising that her husband could be missing on a day he was granted bail by the court, which eventually on August 18, 2014 quashed the charges by discharging and acquitting him.
She said: “I could not believe this. How can a man disappear like that on a day he was granted bail over the unsubstantiated allegation levelled against him.
“Definitely, such a man should be happy to go home and celebrate with his family.
“But, we were all surprised on the turn of event.”
Adedoyin’s father, Tajudeen Ajose, also said he was shocked on the whereabouts of Adedoyin.
He said: “I’m really worried. Up till now, I’m extremely surprised, though he explained to me some of the problems he’s been facing in the local government, particularly series of attacks on him between last year and about three months ago by some members of an outlawed group.”
The elder Ajose wondered why Adedoyin, who expressed confidence over the court case, would leave the court and his destination remains unknown till date.
“This is indeed worrisome and shocking to me,” he said, adding: “Definitely, I want to say, and Ì want to believe that there is more to it than meet the eyes.”
Also speaking on the development, the special assistant’s younger sister, Fadekemi, said that her brother had told her that he had been under series of attacks some months ago by some groups of unnamed men who threatened to deal with him over his opposition to their activities in the council area.
Fadekemi, however, expressed hope that God would protect her brother and bring him back to the wife and children, and the entire family.
Her words: “But, we have been praying for his safety wherever he may be and we are looking forward to his return to the family very soon.”
