Super Eagles’ skipper, Vincent Enyeama, has pulled out of this weekend’s FCON 2017 qualifiers against the Taifas Stars of Tanzania in Dare es Salam.
Camp sources hinted that the Lille OSC shot-stopper has asked to be excused from the trip to Dar es Salaam due to personal issues bordering on his family.
The source said: “Vincent was expected to arrive in the Abuja camp of the Super Eagles yesterday (Tuesday), but from what I have learnt, he has called in to ask for permission to be excluded from the game against Tanzania due to family reasons.
“So the team will now travel with the two goalkeepers currently in camp unless the coach decides to make a late call-up, which I doubt will happen.”
It was however learnt that Sunday Oliseh and his technical crew are likely to make a quick replacement with Enyimba FC of Aba goalkeeper, Femi Thomas, to join up with Wolvehampton Wanderers of England Carl Ikeme and Sunshine Stars’ Ikechukwu Ezenwa for the trip.
Ikeme and Ezenwa are said to have impressed the Nigerian national team selectors, who are yet to make a decision on who gets the nod in the absence of Enyeama before the team flies out to Dar es Salaam on Thursday.
Nigeria began their 2017 Afcon qualification campaign on a winning note with a 2-0 success over Chad in June but sit in second place behind Egypt who enjoyed a 3-0 win over Tanzania in their group.
