Super Eagles’ reliable goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama, suffered a total humiliation as he conceded six goals against rampaging Paris Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.
Paris Saint-Germain bounced back from their Champions League disappointment in style with Ezequiel Lavezzi scoring a hat-trick.
Maxwell set the ball rolling by opening the scoring with just 25 seconds on the clock, the second-fastest goal in Ligue 1 this season, behind André-Pierre Gignac’s strike for Olympique de Marseille against Evian-Thonon-Gaillard FC in September.
Edinson Cavani doubled the lead inside four minutes and Ezequiel Lavezzi then notched a brace before the interval, as Lille were blown away.
Marko Basa got one back for the visitors in the second half before Cavani netted from the spot after Sébastien Corchia was sent off for fouling Lavezzi inside the box and Lavezzi went on to complete his hat-trick.
It was a deeply disappointing afternoon for Lille, their biggest top-flight loss in 30 years ending a run of six wins in seven games and potentially proving fatal to their European hopes. For Paris, in contrast, it was the perfect way to get back on track after their Champions League quarter-final exit in Barcelona, a fourth straight win in Ligue 1 coming in what was, on paper at least, their toughest remaining fixture.
It was their biggest win in Ligue 1 since defeating FC Sochaux-Montbéliard by the same score in April 2012.
No Lille player had even touched the ball before Enyeama picked out of his net after Maxwell’s low strike from an Aurier cross had evaded him, and they were cut open in the fourth minute as Javier Pastore’s flighted pass found Cavani, who beat Enyeama with a delightful chip.
Lille had not won at the Parc since 1996 and they were in for a punishing afternoon as they further behind in the 29th minute, Thiago Motta’s pass cutting open the away defence and finding Cavani, who squared for Lavezzi to tap home.
Lille had not conceded four goals in the first half of a top-flight game in 22 years and worse was to come in the second half, although not before Basa rose to beat Douchez with a looping header from a corner.
Cavani beats Enyeama to score his 11th league goal of the season before Lavezzi powered past Benjamin Pavard and Simon Kjaer and fired low into the far corner to score the first hat-trick of his Ligue 1 career and condemn Lille to their biggest defeat since losing 6-1 in Monaco in April 1985.
