After spending two years in the captivity of the Boko Haram sect, the wife and daughter of the Shehu of Bama in Borno State, Alhaji Kyari Ibrahim Ibn Elkanemi, have regained their freedom.
The wife, Queen Hajju, and daughter of the prominent Emir were returned to the palace by the General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu.
Ezugwu arrived at the palace with the Boko Haram victims at about 1:30pm on Monday.
It was said to be an atmosphere of both joy and sadness as some wept while others leapt for joy on the return of the hostages.
Hajju was abducted in 2014 along with two of her children – a son and a daughter – during deadly attacks on Bama town, which was later taken over by the insurgents.
Her son was discovered killed later.
The Queen and her daughter were reportedly rescued from the Boko Haram terrorists by the troops battling the insurgency in the North East in the Damboa axis of Borno State.
Among those said to have visited the palace to rejoice with the prominent traditional ruler were the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Durkwa; and the Hajia Nana, the wife of the State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
