Policemen serving in the Ekiti State Command have assured the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, that they would not join the rumoured strike by some aggrieved policemen.
According to a statement issued by the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado Ekiti, the policemen were said to have made the promise during an interactive meeting with Lakanu.
The Commissioner of Police had earlier admonished them against such an action, which he said was dangerous to the well being of the Force and that the Police has achieved a lot under the present regime.
The statement added: “They assured the Commissioner of Police that their loyalty to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, is not in doubt and commended him for putting their welfare first by the promotion in all ranks since he assumed office, prompt payment of salaries and also the recent distribution of vehicles to the Command.
“They charged him not to be deterred by the strike threat, as all Police Officers in the country know that it is against the law establishing the force to do so.”
According to media reports, some aggrieved police officers have threatened to embark on strike nationwide on March 28 to press home their demands for payment of arrears of newly promoted officers.
The police officers insisted that there was no going back on their planned strike if their demands were not met before the rescheduled presidential poll.
