Sequel to the rumour of impeachment bribery being peddled, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District and leader of the All Progressives Congress Action Group, has through his solicitors, Messers Ibrahim Olanrewaju and co., written a letter to the mastermind, Lere Olayinka, demanding publicly retraction of the story or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
Olayinka is the Acting Director General of the Ekiti Broadcasting Corporation and Special Assistant on New Media to Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
He is believed to have authored the story, which has been making rounds on air, both the state radio and television station, that Senator Ojudu took a bribe of N250 million for the sole impeachment of Fayose.
By virtue of his position at the broadcasting station, Olayinka was said to have placed the staff of the station under undue pressure to keep broadcasting the fake news, which he also posted on various online platforms, an act which had continue unabated for the past one week.
Through the letter dated April 21, 2015, Messers Ibrahim Olanrewaju, solicitors to Senator Ojudu, observed that the story so far had negative damaging effects on their client and had brought to disrepute the image of their client in the eyes of the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District, which he was currently representing at the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly
The solicitors described the said publication as not just untrue but also an imagination of the ruling party in the state to sow ember of discord among the leadership of the APC.
The firm thereby ordered the broadcasting station and its Director General to tender an unreserved apology for the defamatory broadcast, which shall be aired on the station within the next seven days and also to pay damages in the sum of N10 million for the defamatory broadcast or else they should be ready to face the full wrath of the law as the letter was just a pre-action notice and failure to comply within the stipulated time frame would amount to full trial in a law court.
Also through a separate letter, Messers Ibrahim Olanrewaju has petitioned the Inspector General of police on behalf of Ojudu alleging threats to the life of the senator and had requested that the police swings into action before his life is cut short.
He is said to have been receiving numerous death threats to his life and that of his family members ever since Olayinka posted his phone number on various online platforms in a provocative manner.
Olayinka had earlier in the week posted the phone numbers of Ojudu and the embattled Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin, on his Facebook page and other online platforms, alleging that they were the brains behind the present travails of Fayose and asking the people to occupy their lives.
This, the letter said, has led to series of death threats to the life of both the senator, the speaker and those of their family members.
Both Ojudu and Omirin thus called on the Inspector General of police to arrest and prosecute Olayinka and his co-travellers before they could carry out their threats.
They also maintained that they were ready to supply to the police the phone numbers of the anonymous callers who carried out the threat as they have the strong belief that only the Police could save them from the impending attacks on their lives and those of their family members.
