For the two minutes she had to convince the judges of her ability and readiness to play on the big stage, little Amarachi Uyanne left no one in doubt of her intention to take on anyone for the chance to emerge Nigeria’s most talented person.
The eight-year-old defied stage fright, shyness and loss of concentration, usually associated with children of her age, to earn a semi-final spot in a show that is fast becoming the most exciting in the nation’s history.
Performing to a mix of local dancehall tunes, Amarachi was a living beauty to watch both in act and appearance with every dance step, carriage and body movement that earned her a standing ovation from the capacity-filled National Museum Centre during the Benin, Edo State audition.
One of the Got Talent judges, Yibo Koko, could not hide his admiration for the budding talent, predicting that the starlet, if properly guided, stands a good chance to grab the N10 million on offer.
MC Chibueze “Medical”, a stand-up comedian, also made it to the semis billed for Lagos from October 28, but not without getting some knocks from celebrity Judge, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, over his comic ridiculing of the movie industry.
Henshaw-Nuttal was caught showing a disapproving look as the comedian took his time to mimic some production lapses in some Nollywood films.
This was heightened by fellow judge, Koko, who mockingly offered some unsolicited sympathy to the A-list actress.
Other notable acts that got the nod of the judges for the semi-finals in Lagos included dancers ‘Code Red and the Sixtas’ and instrumentalists, Style Life.
On the other hand, for Offenga Burraimo, a fire eater, magic failed him to his utter amazement when on attempt to light fire with his mouth, the flame simply refused to come to live.
Several attempts proved futile and the 28-year-old left the stage crest-fallen as a chance to berth a place in the next round went up in smokes, literally.
It was the same fate that befell Iyke Michael, who, with a poise of an already accomplished musician, strolled comfortably to the stage only to leave the judges and audience totally disappointed with a poor rendition of “One More Night”, a classic by Phil Collins.
