Shawky Gharib was sacked on Friday as coach of Egypt for failing to qualify the Pharaohs for soccer’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt missed out on the coming finals in Equatorial Guinea when a 2-1 defeat in Tunisia on Wednesday left them out of contention in third in Group G.
The 55-year-old Gharib, who won the African showcase as a player in 1986, was appointed in 2013, replacing American Bob Bradley.
Egypt have won the Nations Cup title seven times, including three consecutive crowns in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
