The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced two buildings worth over N1.01 billion to the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva.
The discovery was made by the EFCC during the continuation of its investigation of allegations of fraud against the former governor.
A statement by the EFCC, on Friday, said the two buildings are located in Abuja and bought by Sylva using a front.
So also has the EFCC uncovered several accounts in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja opened by the governor using fronts.
The acting Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, in the statement on Friday, said the commission had incontrovertible facts about the houses and the accounts.
Two of the fronts used by Sylva in the acquisition spree, including the Managing Director of Marlin Maritime Limited, Gbenga Balogun, are said to be on the run.
But Wilson said the EFCC is closing in on them and they would be arrested anytime from now.
Sylva is standing trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count charge of fraud and money laundering.
But the former governor has described his trial as political persecution.
He accused the President and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in his home state of being behind his travails.
Sylva said he was prepared to stand trial if he is given the assurance of getting fair hearing.
A panel set up by the Bayelsa State Government had also indicted him for misappropriation of the state government’s fund.
The panel was headed by a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Timi Alaibe.
