The Rivers State Government has urged anyone who has had contacts with the first victim of the Ebola Virus Disease in Rivers State, Dr. Iyke Sam-Enemuo, to own up and submit himself or herself for test.
The Ministry of Health in the state also advised anyone who had been near Dr. Sam-Enemuo’s hospital, Samstel Clinic, Rumuokoro in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to also come forward for testing.
The Ministry, in reaction to the death of the doctor, who was infected by a Nigerian diplomat who works with the Economic Community of West African States Commission, said the best way to stop the spread of the fast killing disease was by curbing its spread.
The diplomat was said to have been in contact with the index case of the EVD in Nigeria, late Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer.
The diplomat, who was quarantined in Nigeria, was said to have sneaked to Port Harcourt where Dr. Sam-Enemuo attended to him.
The Rivers State Ministry of Health said the plea for those who had come in contact with the doctor or his hospital had become imperative in view of the deadly nature of the EVD.
The ministry appealed to those who have even travelled out of the state to quickly give themselves up wherever they are to save themselves and others from death.
