The Proprietor of Yemi International Group of Schools in Lagos and Ogun State, Oluyemi Victor, has defied the order of the Federal Government that all schools undergoing summer coaching should shut down forthwith over the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, The Eagle Online can report.
Not only that.
The Eagle Online learnt that Victor has also told the staff of his schools, with location in three places spread across Lagos and Ogun State, that they should be set to resume on September 15.
This also runs contrary to the order issued by the Federal Government that schools should not resume earlier than October 15.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, had a fortnight ago directed that all schools running summer programmes should shut down immediately.
So also did Onyebuchi direct that no school should resume earlier than October 15 from the long vacation to enable the government manage the EVD.
The same directive was also given by the Lagos and Ogun States Governments.
The Eagle Online gathered that the summer school at Yemi International Group of Schools still ran until Friday, August 29 and continues on Monday, September 1.
A staff told The Eagle Online that the summer school will only end on Friday, September 5.
The schools are located at Plot 52b, Agbado Road, Iju-Ishaga, Toko Taya Bus Stop, Lagos State; Plots 1-6, Adafa Street, Off Pipeline, Taju Bello Bus Stop, Oke-Aro, Lagos State; and Bivas Camp, Oke-Oko, Adiyan, Ogun State.
The Eagle Online was told that the Headmaster of the primary school at Agbado, Seun Falaye, who addressed the staff on Thursday and Friday, told them that Victor does not believe in the existence of Ebola and as such would not shut down the school’s summer programme or postpone resumption.
Victor is expected to address the staff on Monday.
The primary school arm at Agbado has no fewer than 100 pupils and 12 staff.
The primary and secondary schools at Oke-Aro is said to be the biggest of the schools and should have not less than 500 students and staff.
Efforts to speak with Victor and Falaye on Sunday proved abortive.
They could not be reached for comments.
