Super Eagles’ Nations Cup qualifiers opponents, South Africa, is yet to name a new Bafana Bafana coach almost four months after sacking Shakes Mashaba.
Recent reports suggest that Safa was keen to appoint SuperSport United mentor, Stuart Baxter, as the new national team head coach.
Baxter, previously had an unsuccessful stint as Bafana Bafana head coach between 2004 and 2005, but this has not deterred Safa, as he has been earmarked for the vacant position after favourites such as Carlos Queiroz and Herve Renard became unavailable for the job.
The 63-year-old was granted permission by his employers to hold talks with Safa over a potential return to the national team setup.
However, according to Tab Sports Express, negotiations have stalled despite Safa President Danny Jordaan being adamant that a new coach would be named following the international friendlies against Guinea Bissau and Angola in March.
According to reports, the stumbling block in the negotiations is the R3 million compensation fee demanded by SuperSport United.
Super Eagles will lock horns with Bafana Bafana in June in their bid to qualify for the continental show piece.
