The Taraba State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ishiaku Kwajafa, has assured parents in the State that their children will not be the next victim of drug abuse with its attendant consequences.
The Commander gave the assurance while acknowledging the arrest of some notorious drug dealers in the State by the Command.
Those arrested are: Calvin Muraino, Kegal Maka Bela, Babakari Isah, Haba Hamauh, and Muhammad Musa.
Also arrested are Auwalu Ahmed and Abubaka Isah, who are allegedly linked with pockets of cultivation of hard rugs in the forest area of Dakka in Bali Local Government of the State.
The operation, which led to the haul of 320kg of hard drugs of different names and effects, also witnessed the bursting of several flash points in Jalingo Metropolis and other areas where the illicit business were discovered to have commenced.
These included Kogin Saki, Dorawa, Road Block, Balking Kasuwa, Market Square, Mile 6, ATC, Sabo Gari, and Sabo Layi.
Also, the management of some social centers such as Green Beach, Exclusive, Magami Nite Clubs, Mobel link, Maijida Plaza have been urged to exercise extra supervision of their businesses to avoid them being used as a breeding ground for drug related offences.
Kwajafa could not hide his joy over the arrest of these persons, whom he described as “unrepentant” and vowed to prosecute all of them to serve as deterrent to others who may wish to follow their bad example.
He said: “When I see the misery of parents of children with uncertain future occasioned by the effect of hard drug, I will have no mercy on you.”
It is on record that those arrested had been on the wanted list of the Command over time as they are alleged to be behind the indiscriminate circulation of hard drugs, which include Tramodol, Raphynol, Codeine and Cannabis sativa.
Others are Suck & die, I go die today, sconk, valium and other psychotropic substances.
While grappling with the lack of a rehabilitation facility to cater for the drug addicts referred to it, the Command decided to adopt a proactive measure to clamp down on supply.
Kwajafa confirmed that the war against illicit drug is to continue until the society is free of hard drugs, adding that it is when the Agency fails that other security agencies will have so much to do.
