Residents of Ibadan, Oyo State whose houses and shops were demolished by the Oyo State Government have appealed to Governor Abiola Ajimobi to implement the report of the committee set up to oversee those that have genuine case on the demolition.
The spokesman to some of the victims, Lekan Ogunrinde, said that those whose property were demolished had been rendered homeless.
Ogunrinde said: “We wish to register our displeasure over the non-implementation of the report of Judicial Commission of inquiry on Cases of Demolition of Environmental and Town Planning Regulations Contraventions.
“The affected people whose properties were demolished abnormally are dying gradually on daily basis.
“Over 100 houses were demolished in Agbowo area of Ibadan metropolis in 2011 by the state government.
“We look forward towards implementation of the recommendation made by the Judicial Commission.”
It would be recalled that Justice O. Boade-led committee was set up by the state government to receive complaints of irregular demolition of properties and to recommend to the government the commensurate compensations to the genuine claims.
While reacting, Adebayo Ojo, the Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, said he had received the report of the committee and it would be formerly presented to Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Ojo said Ajimobi would make a pronouncement on the report of the Committee as soon as he received the report and advised those concerned to the patient.
