The Nigeria Labour Congress on Sunday commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption and fight against insurgents.
The Chairman of the congress in Kaduna State, Adamu Ango, made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna.
However, Ango said a lot needed to be done to address the challenges being faced by workers in the country.
He said: “The issue of hike in petroleum pump price should have been dropped for now until our refineries are fixed and the product is available.
“We want the government to do more so that the masses and workers will have the bargaining power to buy from the market.”
Ango said government should put in place measures that would address the high inflation rate in the country.
On his part, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Shehu Mohammed, said Buhari has done well in the fight against Boko Haram.
Mohammed said: “If you look at the North East that was ravaged by insurgents, people are now going back to their homes.
“In the area of recovery of looted funds, he has done credibly well and should be given more support.”
Mohammed also appealed to the government to do more in addressing the poverty rate in the country, which he said was on the increase.
Also, the Executive Director, Muslim League for Accountability, Malam Yusuf Arrigassiyu, said the administration had performed well in providing security.
Arrigassiyu said: “As an activist on the issue of corruption, it should not be one sided there should be an overhaul.
“Corruption crusade must be transparent and those who looted public treasuries, their names should be made public.
“We have the confidence that President Buhari is committed to a better Nigeria.”
