The Delta State House of Assembly on Thursday suspended Nkechi Chukwurah, the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Council, for a period of three months over alleged misconduct.
The suspension of the council chairman was sequel to a motion moved by Azuka Azaka, the lawmaker representing Ndokwa West Constituency, during plenary in Asaba.
Azaka said the motion was in line with Section 31 of Delta State Local Government Law 2013 as amended.
He said: “I move that the House suspend Mrs. Nkechi Chukwurah for a period of three months with immediate effect.
“The Vice Chairman of the council is expected to take over as acting chairman of the council to ensure peace and order in the local government.
“The three months suspension of the chairman will also enable the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs carry out thorough investigation of the alleged impeachment notice against the chairman.”
The motion, which was unanimously adopted by the House, was seconded by Festus Okoh, member representing Ika South Constituency.
