The number of people killed in the attack on Yar Galadima Village, Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State on Saturday has risen to over 250, sources in the village have said.
On Sunday, 112 of those killed by the invaders were interred at a mass burial witnessed by the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, while some others died from injuries sustained after the burial.
The burial, which took place in a charged atmosphere, saw Yari weeping profusely.
Those killed were largely children and women.
The invaders were believed to be cattle rustlers.
Yari expressed shock and sadness over the incident at the mass burial.
He vowed that the culprits would be brought to book.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Police Command, Lawal Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.
