The Akwa Ibom State Government has described as illogical the media statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state was responsible for the murder of the mother and a sibling of the state publicity secretary of the ACN.
Speaking through the state Cmmissioner for Information and Communication, Aniekan Umanah, the government said: “The illogical press release by Alhaji Lai Mohammed is the latest in a string of bizarre press releases, which Alhaji Mohammed has gained notoreity for since he became the National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria. One is therefore not surprised.”
Umanah added: “We sympathize with the family of the Effanga’s and offer them profound condolences. We condemn in the strongest terms the unfeeling, despicable and treacherous attempt by Alhaji Lai Mohammed to politicize and make political capital out of this tragedy. It simply shows that to him, politics has no-go areas and this explains the culture of violence which men of his ilk unleashed on Akwa Ibom in the buildup to the last elections.
“For someone who was complicit in the killings in Akwa Ibom to have the temerity of saying ‘Akwa Ibom held unenviable record of being the goriest killing field in the entire country’ is shocking and regrettable. This is as wicked as the man who set his seat on fire in the theatre and ran out screaming “Fire! Fire!! Fire!!!
“It is in line with the lawlessness associated witth this mischievous character with comic characteristics that he would not wait for the police to even commence investigation before attempting to politicize the deaths of these innocent persons adding,if he were a more intelligent person he would have wondered what would have been the motive of the Akwa Ibom State Government in such incidents? And this would have have resolved his pychopathic psychological conflicts and he would not have made a public show of his ignorance.
“Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the Effangas and urge the security agencies to leave no stone unturned in fishing out those behind these dastardly acts.”
