The Adamawa State House of Assembly during its plenary on Friday raised the alarm over contracts awarded to AG Vision Construction Company to rehabilitate and construct roads in some parts of the state.
The lawmakers said the company absconded without completing the contracts.
The lawmakers revealed that the contracts were awarded in 2007, 2009 and 2010 to construct Gombi-Ga’anda Road at a cost of N5 billion.
The state government paid N3 billion upfront.
The company, according to the lawmakers, did 30 per cent of the work, leaving 70 per cent undone.
The story is the same in for the road in Pella linking Maiha of Hong Local Government Area of the state.
It was to be rehabilitated at an initial cost of N2.9 billion in 2007, with 20 months completion period.
The contract was peter revised to N7 billion, with a down payment of N5 billion.
Only 50 per cent of the work had been done, the state lawmakers said.
Another road was awarded to the same company in Michika Local Government Area at the cost of N2 billion, with only 30 per cent of the work done.
Investigations also revealed that there are similar cases in Fofure, Ganye and Jada Local Government Areas, where contractors were noticed abandoning site.
The lawmaker representing Hong Constituency and the Chairman of the Information Committee, Hon. Hassan Barguma Mamman, said the House should as a matter of urgency invite both the contractors and officials of the Ministry of Works to explain why those contracts were not executed.
According to Mamman, this is the era of change and as such everybody must be accountable to the people that voted them into power and they will follow up the issue until every company awarded contracts by the Adamawa State Government completes their work as stipulated in the contracts agreement.
Efforts to reach AG Vision Construction Company via phone calls and visits to their sites proved abortive.
