Card reader failure on Saturday characterised the presidential and National Assembly elections in Enugu State, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
A NAN correspondent who monitored the situation reports that in areas where accreditation commenced after the late arrival of materials, most voters had their authentication failed by the card readers.
They were, however, asked to fill the incident form and were accredited manually.
Among the victims of the card reader failure were Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State and some members of his family, who were rejected by the electronic device at the Premier Primary School, Udi/Agbudu 1.
The Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife were also rejected by the card reader during accreditation at Mpu Ward 10 in Aninri local government.
Other areas affected by the card reader failure are Abakpa Nike, Emene, Ugwogo and Trans-Ekulu in Enugu East LGA, Ekwegbe and Ukehe in Igboetiti, as well as in Awgu, Nsukka, Udenu and Igboeze North local governments.
Voters were accredited manually while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission made efforts to rectify the situation.
Reacting to the development, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukaogu, said that efforts were being made to replace faulty card readers.
Onukaogu, however, urged the voters to fill the incident forms and get accredited manually
