There was apprehension on Thursday about a vacuum being created when the Presidency announced that instead of President Muhammadu Buhari embarking on his vacation from January 23, he was going to leave immediately for the United Kingdom.
This was despite the fact that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum.
However, presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, told The Eagle Online after the departure of President Buhari for the UK on Thursday that there would be no vacuum as the Vice President was expected back later in the day.
The Senate had on Thursday announced the receipt of a letter from Buhari to proceed on a 10-day vacation from January 23, with the designation of Osinbajo as the acting president.
Less than an hour after the letter was read at plenary, a statement by Adesina announced that the President would be leaving for the United Kingdom.
This created apprehension of a vacuum, with Osinbajo, whole led Nigeria’s team to the WEF still in Davos.
But Adesina told The Eagle Online: “We are expecting the Vice President Back today.
“He will return this evening.”
