The Senate has responded to the letter written to it by President Muhammadu Buhari requesting it to reconsider its decision not to confirm Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Buhari’s letter had on Tuesday been read to the senators at plenary by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
In the letter, Buhari pleaded for the reconsideration of the senators’ position on Magu.
But replying to the plea by the President, the senators said Buhari failed to consider the security report on Magu.
The major plank for the rejection of Magu by the senators was a security report on him by the Department of State Services.
The report indicted Magu of several wrongdoings, including corrupt practices.
The spokesman of the Senate, Abdullahi Sabi, told newsmen after plenary that Buhari did not factor in the report of the DSS into his letter on Magu.
Sabi said there was the need for Bihari to address the issues raised by the DSS.
He, however, said the Senate would go ahead to screen Magu.
