A former Governor of Aakwa Ibom State and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West, Barrister Godswill Akpabio, was on Monday morning involved in a ghastly accident.
The accident occurred in Abuja.
The Eagle Online learnt that the accident occurred close to Bolingo Hotel.
Sources said Akpabio was heading towards the Airport Road when his vehicle beat the traffic light.
The vehicle in which he was riding then collided with the one given the right of way by the traffic light.
Akpabio is said to have been rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja for injuries sustained.
It was learnt that he is likely to undergo surgery.
One of his aides, who was not at the scene of the accident, however, defended his boss.
He said the Akpabio he knows does not encourage flouting of traffic laws.
He said though he was not yet aware of the development, some people might be out to tarnish the image of his boss, promising that an official statement would be issued once the incident was confirmed.
