A 70-year-old man, Tyohee Gbande, who has been in the captivity of a native doctor, Dooior Uke, for over a month in Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State, has regained freedom.
On Friday, Uke, who was arrested by the police in Benue State two weeks ago in connection with the abduction of Gbande, was charged to court.
A credible source told the Eagle Online that Gbande, who is a polygamous father of four wives and 29 children, and Uke before now live as neighbours in Sir Ore, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, but happened to leave the family residence on August 19, 2016 with Tyover Kor Agah and two others to Benue State to consult an oracle on what appeared strange to them.
Uke accused Gbande of causing his farm not to yield properly this raining season.
He was of the belief that the oracle would identify who the cause of the problem is.
This compelled them to travel to Gbajimba in Guma LGA of Benue State to consult a soothsayer for clarity.
On getting there, The Eagle Online gathered that the native doctor, who identified himself as Doctor Ayutse, now at large, conducted a trial by ordeal on Gbande and said he is convicted of the allegation and that he must pay N200,000 before he could be freed.
The matter since then continued to generate concerns among the families and relations of Gbande.
It was gathered that the other four persons who were in the entourage to the village, including the complainant and other witnesses, were freed, leaving the victim in captivity.
The Benue State Police Command, according to reports, took action, resulting in the arrest of Uke.
As at the time of filing this report, the native doctor and three others were still at large.
But Uke was on Friday arraigned before a Grade 1 Area Court in Makurdi for persecution, while the other persons on the wanted list are being traced.
