The Nigerian Army on Thursday said it has reinforced the troops in Geidam, Yobe State.
This followed an attack on Sector 1 of the 27 Task Force Brigade located at Geidam on Wednesday evening.
The attack was successfully repelled by the troops.
The troops killed most of the attacking terrorists and destroyed their weapons and equipment.
The military said it lost three soldiers to the attack.
Some of its equipment were also destroyed.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, who was on operational visit to North East, was said to have personally visited the troops location to assess the damage done.
Buratai warned the officers of the unit that such ugly incident should not be allowed to happen again.
He was also said to have driven into the town to further assess the damage by the terrorists.
He directed troops to defend and improve the security of the general area.
Buratai also met with some of the community leaders and Idris Aloma Polytechnic staff where he assured them of their safety and improved security.
The situation in Geidam is now calm and people are going about their normal businesses, the Army said on Thursday.
The Chief of Army Staff was received at Geidam by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Hassan Umaru, and Acting Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, who led the reinforcement team last night.
Buratai was accompanied on the visit by the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Yusha’u Abubakar; the Chief of Training and Operations (Army),
Major General Fatai Alli; as well as Acting Director of Military Intelligence; Acting Provost Marshall; Director of Campaign Planning; the Acting Director Army Public Relations; and the Liaison Officer of the Multinational Joint Taskforce.
The Nigerian Army assured the public that the isolated incident would not be allowed to repeat itself.
The acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, added: “We reaffirm our determination and commitment to route out the Boko Haram terrorists in all their enclaves before the end of this year.”
