The Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Jigawa State, Alhaji Sardauna Yero, has urged members of the National Assembly to reflect in the ongoing review of the constitution the demand of Nigerians that the Independent National Electoral Commission should henceforth conduct council polls.
Yero told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Dutse that the council polls would only be seen to be credible if conducted by INEC.
According to him, the elections that have been conducted by State Electoral Commissions are often manipulated by governments of such states in favour of their parties.
The Chairman noted that most of the State Independent Electoral Commissions in the country were not “independent” as being claimed.
He said his party had begun preparations for the forthcoming elections, assuring that only credible candidates would be fielded.
