Charles Micheletti, Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Ghana chapter, has urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to contest for positions in the 2019 election.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria on the telephone from Accra, Ghana on Monday that their participation would make a difference in the election.
Micheletti said: “With the release of the 2019 election timetable by INEC, we, Ghana chapter, wish to encourage Nigerians in the Diaspora to return home and contest for any position.
“Nigerians living abroad are more exposed, experienced and can tackle challenges of their constituents effectively. It will be good for our people to return and take this opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of democracy in our country.”
Micheletti said two members of the Nigerian community in Ghana had indicated interest to contest for seats in the Lagos state House of Assembly.
He said: “This is a good development and we are encouraging them to go for it. Their presence in the legislature will change the fortunes of the people.”
Micheletti, also the chairman, board of trustees of All Nigerian Communities in Ghana, said the chapter was awaiting instructions from the National Secretariat on the release of the election time table.
He said: “Once we hear from them, we will take it up from here and start working for the success of our party in the election.
“It is on record that APC Ghana was the first chapter to put a bill board outside the country requesting Nigerians to go home and vote.”
The chairman said that the chapter was ready to support Diaspora candidates and contribute the party`s fortunes in the election.
