If well protected by limiting the age of used vehicles being imported, right taxation and other favourable policies, the Nigeria Automobile Industry will grow and create thousands of jobs in the country.
This was the position of the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Gaver Dengs, when he visited Peugeot Automobile Nigeria.
On arrival to receive Dengs and his team were the MD/CEO, Ibrahim Boyi, with members of the PAN Management Team.
The ambassador was at the head of the Nigerian chapter of the French Foreign Trade Advisory delegation on a courtesy visit to PAN Nigeria Limited, manufacturers of Peugeot brand of vehicles.
According to a statement signed by PAN’s Head of Corporate Communications,
Haroun Malami, the Ambassador said huge potentials of the country’s automobile industry remain untapped.
Dengs said: “Limiting age of importation of fairly used vehicles, right duties and taxation will protect and encourage the growth of the automobile industry, which has the capacity to create thousands of jobs in the country.”
On his part, the President Generale of CCEF, Laurent Couderc, described the visit as an interesting experience and exchange of ideas, which needed to be continued.
Boyi made a brief presentation to the CCEF delegation at the Peugeot Learning Centre hall on PAN operations and the challenges in this period of economic downturn.
The presentation provoked certain thought on the delegates, which borders on access to forex, operational profitability and government policy.
They were later taken round the assembly plant by the General Manager Industrial, Engr. Augustine I. Okolo.
On the visit were Eric Maydieu of the PSA group, Jean Jacques Jung, Jean Raoul Tauhin and Claude Abily, the Press Counselor of the Embassy of France in Nigeria amongst others.
