The World Anti-doping Agency on Sunday expressed concern over a TV documentary by German broadcaster, ARD, alleging widespread doping in international athletics.
The Anti-doping agency President, Craig Reedie, expressed the body’s worry in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur, where the International Olympic Committee is holding its 128th Session.
The report alleged that one-third of the medals in track-and-field endurance races at the Olympics and world championships over a 10-year period were won by athletes with suspicious doping tests.
The documentary claimed access to a leaked database belonging to the International Associations of Athletics Federations, which contained over 12,000 blood tests from around 5,000 athletes during 2001to 2012.
Reedie said: “WADA is very disturbed by these new allegations that have been raised by the ARD.
“The allegation will once again shake the foundation of clean athletes worldwide.”
Reedie said the accusations required swift and close scrutiny to determine whether there had been breaches under the World anti-Doping Code.
“As always, WADA is committed to doing what is necessary to ensure a level playing field for clean athletes of the world,” Reedie said.
