The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has called on the Senator Abiola Ajimobi-led All Progressives Congress government in the state to call his boys to order in other not to turn the state into a theatre of war
Alao-Akala, while participating on a live programme on a private television at the weekend, alleged that hoodlums sponsored by the APC-led government in the state have been responsible for series of attack in the state and “we have for some time now been calling the attention of the public and the security agents to it”.
He added: “It is quite unfortunate that the chief security officer of the state who claimed to have achieved sustainable peace in the state can be sponsoring hoodlums to attack those they considered as political threat.
“I wonder why the governor and his aides can no longer move round the state freely without thugs and hoodlums loaded in buses.
“They form the majority of people in his convoy and they go about with weapons with which they attack people.”
A press statement signed by Alao-Akala’ss media aide, Barrister Abraham Ojo, said further “For some weeks now, there have been incessant attacks on my supporters and candidates of other parties too. We all know who is behind the insult and attack on people. For instance, the last time we went for a debate on a private radio station, the governor came with retinue of hoodlums who attacked us. They shot at us and one of my supporters was shot in the nose and some buses damaged.
“I wonder why the likes of NURTW chairman and others who are ordinary union leaders should be given police escort. The governor is trying to shield him and some of his cohort who are being used as for violence in the state.”
While debunking the insinuation that his era was not peaceful, the former governor said it is a mere ploy b the opposition to malign his name because they have realized they are losing the election.
He added: “The NURTW crisis was the only problem that occured during the time I governed this state and it is a tradition in their system to change their leaders with force.
“So there were forced attempt and resistance from the opposing camp and they never moved out of their boundary to attack innocent people and when I even realized their problem may affect the state, I proscribed their union.”
