The Lagos State Sports Commission has unveiled plans for this year’s edition of deaf athletics championship slated between Tuesday, 30th of August and Friday, 2nd of September at the Agege Township Stadium, Agege, Lagos.
The competition, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports /Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Ayodeji Tinubu, is aimed at preparing the athletes for the annual deaf championship.
His words: “The Challenge will also create an avenue to select talented athletes who will represent Lagos State at National and International competitions including the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
“It will further assist in evaluating the athletes performance by engaging deaf individuals who are not in school to showcase that there is “ability in disability”.
Meanwhile, 800 athletes are expected to participate in track and field events which includes 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 4x100m, 4x400m, long jump, shot put, discus, javelin, high jump as well as table tennis (singles, doubles, mix doubles and team event).
