No fewer than 50 senators in the seventh National Assembly have lost their bid to secure tickets to contest for the senatorial election scheduled to hold on February 14.
According to the list of candidates for the election provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission, about 60 of the incumbent senators got the tickets of their political parties or crossed over to another to secure the ticket.
Yet some senators picked governorship tickets of their states on the platform of different political parties.
They included Atiku Bagudu (All Progressives Congress), Ifeanyi Okowa (Peoples Democratic Party), Alhassan Aisha (APC), Pwajok Gyang (PDP) and Muhammed Bindow (APC).
In the list released by INEC, all senators from Akwa Ibom State failed to secure the ticket of any political party.
Likewise, the hope of two out of the three senators from Bayelsa State to secure a return to the Senate on the platform of the PDP was dashed.
Many ranking senators also did not make it back.
The included Uche Chukwumerije, Ayogu Eze, Victor Ndoma-Ndoma-Egba (Senate Leader) and Heineken Lokpobiri, who are members of the PDP.
No fewer than seven other senators joined other political parties to secure their return tickets.
They included Barnabas Gemade (APC), Bassey Otu (Labour Party) and Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman (PPA).
