The Plateau State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Danladi Mann, has described the forthcoming 2016 Jos International Marathon Race as a window opportunity for citizens and the state.
Mann made the remark on Tuesday in his office.
He told The Eagle Online that the state government and other partners are not leaving anything to chance to ensure that the marathon records a huge success.
Mann said the marathon, which is expected to hold in November this year, is billed to commence with a pre-lunch on Wednesday to raise fund for the event.
He said over 40,000 participants, made up of elite athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, National Athletics zonal long distance runners and local athletes are expected during the event.
The event, tagged: “Running for Peace,” Mann said, race will cover a distance of 42km beginning from the Rwan Pam Township Stadium and terminate at the Zaria Road Stadium.
For the comparative advantage billed to be derived from the event, Mann said Plateau State as a sporting giant that produced champions nationally and internationally in various sports, can now be reckoned with again having lost its standing as a destination for any sporting activity.
He said the event will help to draw attention to abandoned national sporting facilities in the state.
