The Niger State Police Command on Thursday said it will partner with relevant stakeholders at solving security and safety problems that may arise during the forthcoming general elections in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olushola Amore, said the police will collaborate with other security agencies to ensure that lives and property are secured in the forthcoming elections.
According to Amore: “We need to interact and discuss possible challenges and suggest solutions to those challenges that may confront us as stakeholders in 2015 elections.
“We have to enhance the police performance.
“The command has put in place adequate security measures and trained our officers and men on their civic responsibilities before, during and after elections.”
Amore emphasised that enlightenment of the electorate by political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the police and other stakeholders must conducted to enable the state have free and fair election.
He advised all to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act to avoid problems associated with elections.
On his part, the state Chairman of the National Conscience Party, Abdulazeez Salawudeen, called on the police to increase its intelligence gathering capacity to effectively address election challenges.
Salawudeen also called on rival political parties to refrain from making comments capable of inciting their supporters to violence.
Also speaking, Alhaji Umaru Ma’ali, state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, said his party had embarked on aggressive sensitization of the youths on the need to shun political thuggery during elections.
Ma’ali tasked political parties to work on winning support of the electorate through presenting strong and credible manifesto rather than resorting to intimidation.
The meeting had in attendance the various political parties in the state and other security agencies including Immigration, the military, customs, civil defence and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
