No fewer than 60 aspirants have so far picked nomination forms of the Peoples Democratic Party for various positions in Plateau State as at the last count.
More are still expected to declare their interest as at Thursday morning.
A former Permanent Secretary in charge of Security in Plateau State, Istifanus Gyang, was among those that picked the PDP nomination forms for Barkin Ladi /Riyom Federal Constituency race for the House of Representatives.
Gyang was presented with the nomination form by scores of his supporters from Barkin Ladi/Riyom at his residence in Rayfield, Jos South Local Government Area,
He expressed confidence of delivering dividends of democracy to his people if elected.
He stated that his decision to join the contest was informed by the level of poor representation of the zone by the incumbent member.
He explained that the existence of Nigeria as a corporate entity is currently being threatened by insurgency and this would be contained if courageous Nigerians come together to wrestle the country and preserve it for the younger generation.
According to Gyang, picking his nomination form is an expression of his interest to contribute to the growth and advancement of Nigeria.
He added that every patriotic citizen must work hard to ensure that Nigeria remains one.
He said: “Nigeria is at a critical juncture and two critical issues require attention: The challenges of nationhood and nation building.
“Nigeria is currently threatened and our collective existence is at stake.
“It is time for courageous leaders to rise and join hands to curb the threat by insurgency trying to tear the country apart.
“Nigeria must remain one nation and for a strong nation, we must work together to ensure it.
“Nigeria has no business being a third world nation and since legislation is a critical foundation for good governance, I will do my best to contribute to good governance.”
Gyang assured the people of his constituency he will do his best to put an end to the recurring attacks in the two local government areas, which he is likely to represent.
